2nd Grade Quarter 1 week 3

Announcement:

Discipline Procedures

Discipline at Great Hearts Live Oak is motivated by charity and intended to promote the common good of the school and to cultivate virtue in the individual student. Through our conversations and interactions with students, we seek to bring them to see the truth about themselves and their conduct and to accept responsibility as appropriate to the situation. We utilize a system in the classroom and parents are expected to review and sign the student’s behavior log daily. For notable behavioral issues, we will communicate with you by way of email, phone call, or in writing. Your support and communication toward this end is valued and welcomed! Please review the Parent Handbook for more information concerning the particulars of our student code of conduct.

Ready to Learn:

Scholar is following instruction, engaged in learning, and following classroom expectations.

Redirection:

Scholar has been given two warnings to change their behavior but has not complied. They now have some time to think about their choices and make a change.

Recovery Time:

After some time in the yellow zone, the student continues to interrupt the community's learning and must be removed from it. Teacher will have a one-on-one discussion with the Scholar and a consequence is assigned. Consequences may include loss of recess (no more than 5 minutes), take a reset, etc.

Support:

This now requires intervention from the Dean of Students and/or Headmaster. This will also include parents making a new plan for behavior guidance.

*
A scholar has a chance to move back up to Ready to Learn. Reminding scholars of the

expectations, the use of encouragement and positive reinforcement is key.

Scholarly Position

The following position is expected throughout the day:

1. Head Tall

2. Back Straight

3. Hips Backs

4. Feet Flat

5. Hands Folded On his/her Desk

This position tells our mind and body to be ready to learn.

Virtues

At Great Hearts Live Oak, we are committed to the formation of the whole child and as such, we study and point children to the following nine virtues: Honesty, Integrity, Courage, Humility, Responsibility, Citizenship, Friendship, Wisdom, and Perseverance.
